There is often confusion around what is wellbeing. It can be mistaken for happiness but where happiness can come and go in a moment, wellbeing is the state of being comfortable, healthy or happy.

Many things can make up wellbeing such as relationships, standard of living, a sense of belonging. Some things can be influenced more easily than others and at Jung Shim, we focus on mental wellbeing and health.

Whilst no one can give wellbeing to you, we help many people to improve their personal wellbeing with simple techniques and a simple focus.


5 ways to positive mental wellbeing

1. Stay connected

Connect with the people around you: your family, friends, colleagues and neighbours. Spend time developing these relationships and confide in someone if something is bothering you. Avoid bottling things up and keeping yourself to yourself.


2. Keep active

This doesn’t mean you need to become a gym bunny, far from it. Walking in the park, taking in nature will help you achieve positive mental wellbeing. Find the activity that you most enjoy and make it a regular part of your life.


3. Keep learning

Learning new skills can not only give you a sense of achievement and new found confidence, but also keep your mind active. There are many new skills to learn which are fun from cookery courses to new languages, to salsa classes to art classes. If you feel confident, you will look confident and this will reflect positively in everything you do.


4. Give to others

Giving isn’t a monetary act, it can be the smallest thing. A smile on the tube, a thank you in the shop or a kind word to a stranger are all acts of giving. To go one step further, you could become a volunteer for a cause you believe in. Giving improves your mental wellbeing.


5. Be mindful

To be mindful, you need to try to practise the following:

  1. Observe the present moment as it is.

  2. Let go of your judgments.

  3. Keep returning to the present moment.

  4. Be kind to your wandering mind.

Jung Shim Classes and Treatments

Jung Shim offers classes and treatments by practitioners that are based on eastern principles to promote positive wellbeing, mindfulness and good health. By achieving a steady flow and healthy store of Qi (or chi) energy in our system, we can maintain the balance of mind, body and spirit.

Qi Classes last one hour and consist of chanting, gentle movements and meditation to help re-train our minds to be more mindful.

Chunsoo Treatments open the energy system by releasing blockages to allow Qi to flow freely. The treatments are given by wellbeing practitioners who train for at least three hours a day.
